Dr Àlex Sales

I completed my medical training in Catalonia in 1999. That same year I moved to London, where I have worked in mental health since. I have been working with young people and families since 2003. I have trained and worked in several reputed London Hospitals and specialist services, including Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Anna Freud Centre, and UCLH. I completed my Specialist Training at the Tavistock and Portman NHS FT in 2013, where I stayed as a full time consultant.

I am currently an associate clinical director at East London NHS Foundation Trust.

For the past few years, I have focused my NHS work on complex and high risk adolescent work. I have led on several clinical and multi-agency initiatives towards integrating care and successfully minimising admissions to hospital for young people.

Alongside my NHS work, I have built a small private practice in North London.

My approach

I apply a whole person and a whole system approach to understanding young people. I always include the young person’s “owned story” , their strengths, and their family as part of a co-constructed approach to manage difficulties. Diagnoses and medication may be part of that where necessary.
